W ith Kids Can Draw, children can master the skill of writing by first beginning to recognize shapes. The next step is to practice tracing them. With the iPad, there are a couple ways to accomplish this. One can use a finger, or a capacitive stylus.

Children are more likely to master the art of drawing and handwriting if they use a writing tool that fits their hand properly. Choosing the best writing tool for your child will make an incredible difference to his/her fine motor skills.

We found some of the best sites to shop for these kinds of tools:

• The National Autism Resources website: Now, don’t let the name fool you, even if your child doesn’t have autism, this is a key source for all sorts of fine motor tools. These tools will give your child the best chance to master such needed skills.
• When it comes to shopping for the best stylus for your kids, we put together our top 3 best styli in the market:

1. The Crayola iMarker: This marker is awesome! And the Crayola app is a great tool to teach your children to draw. This is definitely a must-have companion to the Kids Can Draw app. The stylus is thick enough to allow the child to have a nice grip and allows them to focus on learning the lines and patterns that the Kids Can Draw app can teach them.
2. The Cosmonaut: This is a really great stylus for the iPad. Its design resembles that of a whiteboard marker, and it has a nice rubbery grip. This is definitely one of our favourite ones.
3. The AluPen: If you’re worried about your little ones destroying your stylus, this would be the one to get. It is a tough stylus that in thick and easy to hold. One of the concerns I would have with this stylus is that children may hold it upside-down. Children may damage the iPad screen if they hit it too hard (or scratch it). This one is recommended for older kids.

With all this in mind, we found some inexpensive styli at our local dollar store that resembled the AluPen, but at a fourth of the price. If you are on a budget, go to Best Buy, Walmart, or your local electronics store and get yourself a thicker stylus.
